Designing for Digital 2019

Are we spending too much time and bandwidth creating and finding bespoke apps and solutions for every new problem, and not enough time seeing where these "new" issues and needs overlap with past ones and their already existing solutions? Join us down the rabbit hole of identifying patterns in user needs, issues, workflows and technology, to find ways to reduce duplication, save time and resources -- all while creating an ultimately richer experience for our users.

This presentation outlines space assessment approaches at Michigan State University Libraries using tools available in Qualtrics. This session will explore some of the specific Qualtrics features that can be used for space assessment data collection and analysis, and will provide specific use cases, examples, and lessons learned from our experiences using Qualtrics for space assessment initiatives at MSU.

This session provides a framework for leading organizational changes that drive the design and construction of library spaces that are repurposed for digital research, collaboration, and dissemination of knowledge complementary to twenty-first century teaching and learning initiatives.   From a UX perspective, this presentation will consider methods for assessing the space needs of various stakeholders both within and outside the libraries and discuss strategies for tackling complex space and personnel issues that potentially hamper project progress.
